Editorial Standards

Fetches Index is committed to publishing accurate, useful, and honest reporting on education. This page describes the editorial standards our writers and editors follow.

Sourcing

Our articles draw on three categories of sources. Primary research includes peer-reviewed studies, government data, and original research published by recognized institutions. Expert interviews include conversations with teachers, administrators, researchers, and other professionals who work in the areas we cover. Original reporting includes our own analyses of publicly available data and our observations of programs and institutions.

We do not republish content from other publications. Articles on Fetches Index are produced by our editorial team based on the sources described above.

Verification

Before publication, every article is reviewed for factual accuracy. Names, titles, and affiliations of cited individuals are verified. Numerical claims are checked against the sources we cite. Quotations are verified with the speakers or their published statements when possible.

When we cite specific studies, we link to the original publication so readers can examine the evidence themselves. We do not paraphrase findings in ways that overstate or distort the original conclusions.

Balance and Fairness

Education is a field with genuine disagreement among researchers and practitioners. We work to present substantive disagreements fairly, including views we may not personally endorse. Where evidence clearly supports one position, we say so. Where evidence is contested or limited, we describe the limits rather than pretending consensus exists where it does not.

We avoid framing that overstates the strength of any single position. Reporting that exaggerates findings to produce stronger headlines undermines the trust that careful work builds.

Independence

Our editorial work is independent of commercial considerations. We do not accept payment for coverage. We do not coordinate editorial content with advertisers or commercial partners. Where affiliate relationships affect specific articles, they are disclosed in accordance with our Affiliate Disclosure.

Our writers do not have ownership stakes in companies they cover. Where writers have personal or family connections to organizations we report on, those relationships are disclosed in the affected articles.

Corrections

Errors that affect the substance of an article are corrected promptly. Significant corrections are noted at the bottom of the article with the date of the correction. We do not silently change articles after publication to obscure prior errors.

Our Fact-Checking Policy describes the specific process we use to address errors when they are identified.

Anonymous Sources

We name sources whenever possible. When sources request anonymity to share information they could not otherwise share, we evaluate the request carefully. Anonymous sources are used only when the information is important, when alternative on-the-record sources are not available, and when we have verified the information through other means.

Plagiarism

We do not republish content from other sources without attribution. Quotations are clearly marked. Ideas drawn from research are cited to their source. Article structure and language are produced by our writers, not copied from other publications.

Conflict of Interest

Writers and editors disclose to senior editorial staff any personal or financial interests that could affect their work. Where conflicts of interest exist, the affected coverage is reassigned or appropriate disclosures are made within the relevant articles.

Reader Engagement

We read reader feedback and take seriously corrections, story tips, and suggestions for improving our work. Feedback that identifies factual issues receives priority response. Reader correspondence is treated according to our Privacy Policy.

Updates to These Standards

We review and update these standards periodically. Material changes are communicated to readers through prominent notice on the Site.
